Just joined the forum and wanted to say hi. I used to play 40K years ago, gave up on it just after 4th edition came out. Have played Blood Bowl in the past and loved the campaign system. Currently, I collect 28mm WWII miniatures and 6mm ancients, but I like to check out stuff here and there on occasion.
The Star Mogul miniatures have caught my eye and the game seems like a blast to play.

If anyone wants to tell me more about their own experiences with the game that would be great.

While it appears that pretty much all Development on this has grounded to a halt, I found SM to be one of the best skirmish systems on the market. The Fog of War feature makes the game unpredictable and really gives it it's appeal.

While filling out the ranks of some of the forces will be difficult, using proxies or just selecting another "brand" of miniatures to make up for it, you can still play the game and as I stated above it one of the best "diamonds in the ruff".

Such a shame that it no longer gets attention.

I do highly recommend obtaining the Main Rulebook and the suppliments as they are well worth the Money spent and the Human and Hydrissian armies are pretty much fleshed out and most of the models have been released for those.

Welcome aboard. It's nice to see a fresh face.

To be honest, the thing that drew me to the Star Mogul line was the minis. They are not the best sculpts on the market, but they make up for that with character, charm and coolness.

The game itself was like finding a prize in my cracker jack box. It is very well laid out, and has a huge advantage over other typical skirmish games, in that killing the opponent is not the main goal. Grabbing salvage and skedaddling is king. Sure, some of the Mephalians like to kill, but those purple skinned bastards are just blood thirsty!

I too wish there was more of an active community. Other than a few die hard regulars, we only see an occasional new face. It's too bad this game doesn't get the recognition I feel it deserves.

But, don't take that all as a bad thing. There is still a ton of great models, and the rulebooks are fantastic!

I'd love to hear about your salvaging crew and any ideas you may have.

Thanks for the replies. Saw a previous post about the line getting new sculptors and that seems like a good step for this game.

I got interested in the game through a process of gradual 'downscaling' to skirmish level games. I used to play Warhammer Fantasy (and still have a lot of the models), but the time it takes to collect and paint an army, let alone play a decent game, was getting harder and harder to find. As a result, I moved towards skirmish games (via Blood Bowl too, as it happens), and on to Mordheim, but I love grungy sci-fi (Pitch Black, etc.) and that's what caught my eye about Star Mogul. The miniatures are full of character, it's true - Supervike is absolutely right! I just put together the Demolition 'Bot today, and it's a beauty. Went together perfectly as well, it's worth saying.

As for how the game plays - well, I haven't played yet, but I am due to play a game tomorrow evening (my first!), and I'm looking forward to it! My salvage gang is all ready now (well, I'll be using a proxy Salvage Dog - a converted GW Land Speeder - but it still looks good), and while nothing's painted yet, and I normally hate playing with unpainted models, I really want to see how it plays out on the tabletop. I can paint them next week!

I should be starting a log to follow my foray into all things Star Mogul, so maybe it will answer some of your questions. I promise to have pictures too!

You'll find the game play is different, especially the Fog of War, which makes Star Mogul unique.

Definitely post a battle report when you do get play.

Well, a bad head cold kept me from playing the game last night, but it's been rescheduled for next week - which gives me time to get a few models painted!
Hopefully there'll be a battle report next week!

Should I order from Old Glory 15s or from the Alpha Forge site?

Saw a notice on the Mephalian page that said new models coming soon.

I think you can safely order from either. They both go to Jay, the head guru.

What appealed to me were the miniatures. The aliens, in particular. I really like the look of the Hydrissians and their equipment. Even though they can be used with different sets of rules, I picked up the Star Mogul rules because I liked the concept of a salvage campaign. So the Hydrissian starter bundle seemed like a good deal to me. Unfortunately, I have no one to game with, so I'm more of a collector and a rules reader. One of these days, though ...
