The Kentucky Fried Gamers

Postby Bubba Ho-Tep » Thu Sep 13, 2007 10:54 am

I posted this in my intro, but I'll put it here as well.

Hello all,
My name is Ron Purvis aka. Bubba Ho-Tep

Myself and 2 other guys formed and run the Kentucky Fried Gamers, a gaming group with members all over the country. Our core group here consists of about 12 and we also have another core group formed in Indianapolis. We are growing larger every day.

We organize and run KFG Wednesday Gaming at the Ram the Wed. before Gen Con. This year was our second year running the event and we had over 200 people gaming throughout the day & over 100 that night. Next year looks to be even bigger, we are working on some really big things.

A gaming group sounds pretty enjoyable.

A few questions...

How do you decide which games you will all play?

Any pointers on how one would start up a gaming group?

To be honest the big group kinda was an accident, but I went with it. I would just get with your LFGS and put up a flyer or have a game day and ask people if they would like to join your group. The biggest hurdle alot of groups face unfortunately is politics, everyone wants to be in charge. My group has 3 guys that make all the decisions and that will never change, the people in our group understand that. We always take suggestions from our members and let them know if we think they will work or not, we're pretty easy going.

Just start with a good core group and then expand on it.

As far as what games we play, it's usally by general concensus or if I want to get them to try something new, I just tell them that I am running "X" game and if they want to try it then come on over. I am usually the guy who gets all the new games, it's that obsession with games thing.

Let me know if I can help out.

While this may be true in the general sense, dogs are assigned posistions of strength in a team, oft times with no replacement for the leader. The pack cannot be changed at the whim of the musher, but rather is established by dominance of the dogs personality.
Do you sled? Season is comming soon here. the leaves have changed, but it hasent gotten cold yet. It is still up in the high 40s low 50s, but we'll prolly have snow in fairbanks by oct 1.
I check out the idit. during rondy, but then who does'nt. The northern run is the one i like though. its less comercial, longer, colder, and far more exciting.
It'll be really cool if there were another sledder/gamer out there besides me and my friends!
Perhaps I should model sled teams to haul my salvage rather than a truck, hhmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm..........

It's just a general statement that I heard once and liked it. It reminded me of all the mindless drones that are happy in their 8-5 or 9-5 jobs and life.

I am a believer in the "go get it" philosophy. If you want something bad enough then do something about it, don't just sit there and whine and complain. Just like the KFG, we want it to be the best gaming group we can make it and put the effort into it to try to make it that way.

That is why I love to try new games. I will try out a new game and if I like it or I think others in the group might like it, I pass it on or get others to play it, in the process helping out the guys or gals who make it.

I don't sled, but have alot of respect for those that do, it cannot be easy. I have seen a few on TV and think it's very cool, no pun intended.
